Why choose JNC-recognised Qualifications?

  • You will be professionally recognised within your field
  • A large number of employers only employ JNC-qualified Youth Workers
  • You will have the industry standard learning and knowledge to support young people through adolescence and to achieve their aspirations.
  • You will gain confidence, develop valuable skills, and enhance your career prospects in the youth work sector and beyond, as the learning you gain is transferable to many other roles.

The Award

Learners will cover four core youth work Units: Safeguarding in a Youth Work Setting, Theory of Youth Work, Young Persons Development and Engaging and Communicating in a Youth Work Setting. These units are designed to provide learners with the basic youth work skills and knowledge to effectively work with young people,  keep them safe and support them as they develop through their adolescence.

The Certificate

Learners will complete nine units in total: four units from the Award and an additional five at Level 2 or Level 3. These include Work-Based Practice, Working with Behaviour That Challenges, Group Work, Anti-Discriminatory Practice, and Reflective Practice.

The Certificate provides learners with a solid foundation in youth work, covering essential skills, theory, and guided practical experience to help them develop confidence and enhance their practice when working with young people.

 The Diploma

Learners will be expected to complete all nine core units: the four units that make up the Award and the five units that form the L3 Certificate. After completing these, learners can choose from a range of additional units to further develop their learning.

Get Up and Go recommends selecting units that reflect the type of youth work in which learners are currently involved as these optional units give learners the opportunity to explore a specific area of youth work in greater depth. For those working in specialised roles, this allows them to refine their skills and develop additional knowledge and expertise.

Did you know…

The first four units of the Award, Certificate, and Diploma are the same.
  • If you choose to complete the Certificate, you can decide whether to continue studying at Level 2 or progress to Level 3. You can make this decision once you have started the Award, which helps learners make a more informed choice about their next step.
  • The Diploma is delivered at Level 3 and is designed for those who want to specialise in a specific area of youth work or progress to university-level study.
  • If you choose to complete the Diploma, you must first complete the Level 3 Certificate. It is not possible to complete the Level 2 Certificate and then progress directly to the Diploma.

How is training delivered?

Training can be delivered online, in person, or through a combination of both, depending on your needs and the funded training route.

You can enrol as an individual and learn alongside other learners in similar roles.

Alternatively, we can provide closed group training for organisations with nine or more youth workers, allowing teams to train together.

Which course is for me?

Level 2 is recommended for anyone working as an assistant youth worker or youth worker on a youth project.

Level 3 is recommended for anyone who is leading and planning; you might be known as the worker in charge or project lead within the youth work setting.

However, if you are keen to develop your skills and move into a leadership role, you may wish to consider studying at Level 3

"I attended Jenna’s course, Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles. Because of lockdown the course was taken remotely, but it did not affect the quality of the training. Jenna put everyone at ease and gave us all all the support and advice we needed to successfully complete the course. If I had a query I would email Jenna who responded quickly with all the information and reassurance I needed. This training has helped me in my work and Jenna has inspired me to take my training further."
